03:20 PM CDT on Wednesday, August 13, 2008
HOUSTON -- Houston Police are using a deal negotiated by Dallas cops for a lower-than-expected price for new digital dashcams. In an agreement approved Wednesday, the Houston City Council authorized just over a million dollars for 225 digital cameras to be installed in Houston police cars.
According to HPD, the new cameras will allow investigators to replay high-resolution video from police cars at their desks – eliminating the cumbersome and often nonfunctional VHS-based systems currently installed in most police cars.
