Robbers run over ATM vendor
01:41 AM CDT on Saturday, July 26, 2008
HOUSTON -- An ATM company owner was run down by a pair of would-be robbers on Friday afternoon after he attempted to turn the tables on the crooks. Instead of being a victim, the cash machine vendor pulled a gun on the thief as he tried to rob him of hundreds of dollars in cash.
However, his attempt to apprehend the suspect ended when the robber's partner ran over the ATM owner.
11 News agreed to protect the ATM owner's identity, who wanted to tell his story and show his injuries. The robbery victim, who'll we refer to as John, said when he tried to refill one of his ATM machines on Aldine Mail Road in North Harris County on Friday, a robber came up to him, grabbed the cash bag and ran off.
John didn't let that be the end of it, though. The Korean business owner who came to Houston for a better life, decided to fight back.
He gave chase, pulled his 9 mm handgun and fired several shots into the ground as he chased the robber around the strip center. Just when he caught up with the robber, John was slammed from behind by a car and run over.

Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators interview the ATM vendor after he was nearly robbed Friday afternoon.
The car, as it turns out, was driven by the robber's accomplice. The robbers dropped the ill-gotten loot and took off.
John showed 11 News the series of cuts and scrapes he had from the back of his head running down to his legs.
Now he and police are seeking two suspects that they do not have a firm description of.
