Beautification projects, pedestrian friendly sidewalks, and affordable housing:  they're just a few of the changes more than 800 people living in the East Riverside Corridor said in a survey that they want to see made in their area.

"We're so close to downtown and we have such beautiful amenities that we just want to see them improved and we want to see traffic reduced or streets expanded and just reducing crime" said David Mintner, an east Austin resident living near east Riverside.

Tuesday night, neighbors packed the cafeteria of Baty Elementary School to see if city planners and developers got it right.

"We'll be looking at all the input that we receive, we'll also be taking input from the website and going back and looking to see if there are parts of the plan that need to be changed to better reflect the input that we receive" said Erica Leak, an Austin City planner who's heading the East Riverside Corridor Redevelopment plan.

Neighbors who didn't get to attend Tuesday night's meeting will get another to voice their opinions in January.  The Austin City Council will vote on the redevelopment plan in the spring 2009.  Those plans could be implemented as early as the Fall of next year.

"I know we'll have a long process to go but so much that has been put into this project it's going to be truly awesome and the participation and the turnout we've had is really, really good" said Marilyn Jackson, a resident living near East Riverside.
