Officials: San Marcos water safe to drink
11:06 AM CDT on Tuesday, August 19, 2008
The water may be cloudy, but it is safe to drink, San Marcos officials said Tuesday, after reports that some water customers had cloudy or milky-looking water after main breaks.
Several recent main breaks have allowed air to seep into the system, including a break in a 12-inch main Wednesday that caused low pressure and water outages for some city water customers.
“This condition is the result of air being entrapped in the water during main breaks the system has had,” said Jon Clack, assistant director of the water/ wastewater utility, in a news release. “The water is safe to drink.”
City officials say water samples show the color is improving, and crews were expected to flush several lines Tuesday to remove the air.
