Boy falls 30 feet off bridge in Carrollton
08:52 PM CST on Wednesday, November 19, 2008
CARROLLTON - An 11-year-old boy was taken to Children's Medical Center in Dallas with critical injuries after he fell from a 30-foot bridge along a railroad track just before 3 p.m. in Carrollton.
Authorities said the child was dropped off by a school bus at Josey Lane, which is nearby the bridge.
The boy fell about 30 feet and onto a concrete culvert as he was walking along the tracks in 1800 block of Sherwood Lane, police said. A witness reported seeing the boy lean over the bridge just before the accident.
Once someone reached the boy, he was unconscious and has remained that way at Children's.
"He lived, from what I understand, in these apartments to our right," said Sgt. John Singleton, Carrollton Police Department, while at the scene of the accident.
The child's name has not been released.
