Man in custody after 12-hour standoff
12:37 PM CDT on Monday, August 18, 2008
DUNCANVILLE — A man is under arrest after holding Duncanville police at bay for 12 hours.
Police used an explosive charge Monday morning to open the front door of a residence on Woodhaven Boulevard.
The man — who had fired shots in the air during the siege that began at 10:30 p.m. Sunday — was apparently upset with neighbors.
Heavily-armed police who stormed the house found him hiding in a crawl space underneath the residence.
Police said neighbors were never in any danger. "Once they evacuated the houses that were close enough to the house, and they secured it and the perimiter was set up, it was pretty much contained at that point," said Duncanville police spokesman Office Doug Fisk.
The unidentified man was examined by paramedics at the scene, then taken into custody and jailed. There was no word on what charges he will face.
