Dallas officer fires at man who tried to run him down
07:38 AM CDT on Friday, August 15, 2008
A Department of Public Safety officer shot at a car-theft suspect who tried to run over the officer Thursday evening, police said.
DPS officers with the motor vehicle theft service were trying to pull over a stolen vehicle in the 5100 block of Gaston Avenue, near North Munger Boulevard, about 4:25 p.m. The suspect drove at the officer, who fired at the car but was not believed to have struck the man, police said.
The man got away and ditched the car a short time later at Gaston Avenue and Fitzhugh Avenue, police said.
DPS officers later thought the man may have gone to a home in the 420 block of North Peak Street. As an officer approached, a dog chased and the officer shot it, police said.
No officers were injured, and the man had not been found late Thursday.
